Perpendiculars

Post by Mikerosen »

I draw a rectangle. I want to draw a line perpendicular to one of the sides. Depending on the mouse location, the start of the line will jump from the side to top or bottom, then back to the side, and so forth. If I convert the rectangle to lines, then the perpendicular works properly. Is this something in the settings?

I've just upgraded to 4.8, but if I recall correctly, this has happened before.

Merci!

Hi Mike

I think RealCADD has a problem drawing perpendiculars from the sides of a rectangle (or any polygon for that matter) inwards. It draws perpendiculars outwards just fine. But inwards it does just what you describe.

You can do what you say and convert the rectangle or polygon to lines. Or you can draw a very short line where you want the perpendicular, which it will do OK, then come out of the line tool, and then extend the line (holding down the shift or option key as appropriate to maintain the line's angle).

Perhaps Eric can fix this – it is a little annoying!

Glad to hear it wasn't me. I'll remember to convert to lines, first!

Thanks.
