Extending a line

Post by debenriver »

One thing I have not found how to do in RealCADD is to easily extend or shorten a line at its existing angle.

I currently use the extend tool, or the cut tool – but this means drawing another temporary line to extend to or cut to, which gets a bit tedious.

What would be really great would to be able to pick up one end of a line and extend (or shorten) it maintaining its existing angle, by holding down the alt, or another, key. Currently holding down the shift only makes the line go to one of the preset angles (90, 45 etc).

Is there a way to do this at the moment?

You can simply fix the length that you want in the edit palett

And remember that the edit palett accepts arithmetic operations.
So you can enter : *2 or +1.15 or -2.05
If you want a negative value so enter =-2.5, so the length will be -2.5.

That's true – but only in the direction you originally drew it. You can't extend the line from the origination point back and retain the angle. :D

Yes, you are right.

Probably a feature to request ;)

And do you know in which direction you originally drew the line ?

If the line is not in the good direction to change the length, you can turn it before with the command "Rotate".

But I have added this feature request on my todo list.

That would be great Eric.

On the subject of updates: RealCADD is very good value – I have used it now for several years and you have issued several major updates free of charge. Personally, I would be happy to pay a reasonable fee for major updates – i.e. new features, not just bug-fixes.

Obviously it's nice to get free updates, but I don't think it's fair to expect them forever. And as a user I have a strong interest in the continued development of the program :D

Right now I work more on iPocket Draw than RealCADD.
But, I am the first user of RealCADD so it will continue to be updated.
I have to think medium and long term keeping in mind some past difficulties, such as, for example, when switching to Macintel.
The best way is to use development tools from Apple and not others.
iPocket Draw is developed with the tools from Apple unlike RealCADD.
So iPocket Draw can be a base to replace RealCADD if the development tool that I use to RealCADD had a big problem.

A major reason that triggered the development of RealCADD is that updates of the CAD software that I used (PowerCADD) were too expensive for very few new features.
