Bonjour George,

I worked again on RealCADD before I read your last message.
And I arrived at the same conclusion : Put the focus on the editfield of the Edit pallet is not a good solution : I can't fix the problem this mousecursor.
Therefore I took another and, I think, better way.
I give the focus to the editfield only when the user begin to hit a key which has sense for it : "+-*/0123456789.,()"

And doing that way, I think the last problem you found no more exists.

So, new beta again : RealCADD 4.71b7

Thanks.
Cordialement.

Good morning Eric

That works great! Have I got it right (to draw say a 100mm long line):

With the Command Line inactive

Option 1: Start to draw a line. With the mouse still held down hit =100↵ (equals 100 enter/return key) and let go of the mouse. The line will be 100 long at the angle you drew it.

Option 2: Draw the line (any length) and let go the mouse. While the line is still selected (i.e. before clicking the mouse again) hit =100↵ and the line will be 100 long at the angle you drew it.

Option 3: At any time, select a line and hit =100↵ and the line will be 100 long at the angle you drew it.

All three options work correctly with all lines, including a line drawn perpendicular to another line or object.

With all three options you can do equals */+- enter/return – so you could do for example = 5*8 ↵ and get a line 40 long.

With Options 2 & 3 you can of course still click into the length box in the Edit pallet and enter the desired length and hi enter/return as before.

With the Command Line active

Option 3 works just fine

Options 1 & 2 will quite logically make an entry into the appropriate Command Line entry box and have different results depending on the Command Line mode selected (e.g. if L-mode is selected you need to tab to enter the Angle before hitting the Enter key).

If I've got that all correct, I'll add all this into the manual, including the new snap functions and the new Layer layout menu.

I'm sorry the line length suggestion was so much trouble for you – thank you for persevering :D

Cheers -- George

Bonjour George,

Yes you are right.
And when you begin to hit a number or +-*/, the Edit pallet has the focus then you can also use the Tab key to change other datas if you want.

Cordialement.

Excellent - and you don't actually have to hit the = key which I thought you did.

Cheers

George,

Your question shows me that I forgot "=" into the list of chars which can be entered.
The "=" is necessary to enter directly a positive or negative value : "=-5" the value will be -5 instead of with "-5" the value will be (previous value - 5).

Thanks.
